إِذا قَلَّت فَوائِدُنا جُفَينا

بِذاكَ يَزُمُّ أَينُقَهُ الخَليطُ

When our benefits grow few, we are shunned.

For that reason, the companion bridles his she-camels.

وَلَم أوثِر لِمِصباحِ خُموداً

وَلَم أوثِر لِمِصباحِ خُموداً

وَلَكِن خانَ مَوقِدَهُ السَليطُ

وَلَكِن خانَ مَوقِدَهُ السَليطُ

And I did not wish a lamp to go out,

But the oil betrayed its burner.
