إِذاwhen مُتُّI die لَمnot أَحفِلI care بِماabout what اللَهُGod صانِعٌdoing
إِلىto الأَرضِthe earth مِنof جَدبٍdrought وَسَقيِand watering غُيوثِrains
When I die, I shall not care what God does
When I die, I care not what Allah may do
to the earth, whether drought or watering with rains.
To the dust in drought or watered with rain,
وَماand not تَشعُرُknows الغَبراءُthe dusty earth ماذاwhat تُجِنُّهُconceals it
أَأَعظُمُis it bones?
And the dusty earth does not know what it conceals:
Nor feels the dust what it will grow into,
is it the bones of sheep, or the bones of lions?
Whether the mightiest lion or humble grain
