وَحِمامُ المَرءِ كَالفَجرِ سَطَع
Welcome, death, while life is darkness,
Welcome death and living is darkness
And a person's death shines forth like dawn.
A man's dove is like the dawn shining

Hope is twisted tight, not released
A hope I reap that does not send
By a living person's hand; when he dies, it is severed.
The palm of the living then when he dies is cut off

ذاكَ أَمرٌ مِن لَبيبٍ لَم يُطَع
The prudent man enjoined piety upon a soul;
The resolute man commanded himself with piety
That was a command from a wise man who was not obeyed.
That is a command from a sensible one not obeyed

How many people desired immortality, only to find
How many wanted immortality, but saw
A path that, if sought, cannot be traveled.
A path, if searched for, cannot be attained

I do not know whether it is for dividing wealth or
I do not know if it is for dividing money or
For severing a head that the leather mat is called for.
For shortening the head that it is called beheading

Al-Mushtar sought opinion, and lo
The wretched man's corpse was in pieces on the ground.
The corpse of the wretch in the ground cut up
