    We have natures that we have found reason commanding,

    yet they desire none of what is good in character.

    وَإِن يَذِلَّ فَعَيرٌ آهِلٌ رُسِنا

    Your brother, if powerful, is a wild ass in his savage ways;

    and if humbled, a tame ass that has been haltered.

    وَطالَ وَقتٌ فَأَمسى كُلُّها أَسِنا

    We are waters that have remained in their dwelling places;

    and much time passed, so all of them grew foul.

    Indeed, the nights have spoken, though they are silent:

    How eloquent is Time—not the one who claims eloquence!

    Glory to the Creator of these bright stars, ceaseless in motion:

    they traveled and journeyed by night, without fatigue or drowsiness.

    رَبَّت جُسوماً وَفيها لِلعُيونِ سَنا

    And the sun showers the people of earth with benefit;

    it has nurtured bodies, and in it is radiance for the eyes.
