    Wait—you have been deceived, though you are free,

    by a man of guile who admonishes women.

    He forbids you tawny wine in the morning,

    yet deliberately drinks it in the evening.

    يَعُلُّ كَأَنَّما وَرَدَ الحِساءَ

    He has sipped it, both mixed and neat;

    he drinks again and again, as though he had reached the waterholes.

    He tells you, 'I went out in the morning without a cloak,'

    yet for its pleasure he pawned the cloak.

    If a young man does what he forbids,

    then in two respects, not one, he has done wrong.
