لَقَدindeed طالَhas grown long الزَمانُtime عَلَيَّfor me حَتّىuntil
لَقَد طالَ الزَمانُ عَلَيَّ حَتّى
غَدَوتُI have become وَليand I have إِلىtoward الدُنياthis world رُكونُreliance
غَدَوتُ وَلي إِلى الدُنيا رُكونُ
Time has indeed drawn on so long for me that
I have come to lean upon this world.
فَلاso let me not أُغرَرbe deceived إِذاif أَجَليmy appointed end خَطانيhas passed me by
فَلا أُغرَر إِذا أَجَلي خَطاني
سَيَأتيwill come المَوتُdeath أَغفَلَmost heedless ماwhen أَكونُI am
سَيَأتي المَوتُ أَغفَلَ ما أَكونُ
So let me not be deceived if my appointed end has passed me by:
Death will come when I am most heedless.

And a body, mere dust, will join the soil,
Upon whose movements stillness has descended.
