This dove has become a songstress,

Singing on the road’s surface without fear.

Did she seek reward from God, or set about

Hoping, through her cooing, to discharge a vow?

She went on so much that I deemed her words,

Though free of verbal slips, mere prattle.

She makes us fear Umm Dafr by deception

And guile, yet she neither shed tears nor let them fall.

    فَقَد شَفَّنا زَرعٌ تَكَوَّنَ مِن بَذرِ

    May we be rid of you, our world, in displeasure and contentment;

For a crop that grew from seed has worn us thin.

And we are indeed ‘Udhri lovers in our passion for you,

But we have no excuse where you are concerned.
