أودواthey perished إِلىto اللَهِGod ماnot أودٌAwd وَمفخَرُهاand its glory
Awd
They have passed away to God; Awd and its glory
I give to God what I own and its pride
Are of no account—nor Awd, nor Awd.
Is neither owned nor do I own
طوبىblessedness لِمَوؤودَةٍfor a girl buried alive فيat حالِthe time of مَولِدِهاher birth
ظُلماًunjustly فَلَيتَso, would that أَباهاher father الفَظُّthe cruel مَوؤودُburied alive
Blessed is a girl buried alive at the moment of her birth,
Blessed is one welcomed at birth
Unjustly—would that her cruel father were buried alive!
With injustice, if only her cruel father were not welcomed
ياO رَبُّLord هَلquestion particle أَناI بِالغَفَرانِwith forgiveness فيon ظَعَنيmy departure
مُزَوَّدٌprovisioned إِنَّindeed قَلبيmy heart مِنكَfrom You مُزؤودُterrified
O Lord, on my departure, shall I have forgiveness
O Lord, will I be forgiven while in hardship
As my provision? Indeed, my heart is terrified of You.
I am provided, my heart is indeed welcomed by You
وَالناسِand people كَالأَيكِlike a grove of trees مَخبوٌّstored away لِعاضِدِهِfor its woodcutter
إِلىuntil اليَبوسِdryness وَماضٍand one passing away وَهُوَwhile it يَمؤودُis tender and supple
And people are like trees: one kept for its woodcutter
And people are like a sturdy palm tree to its grower
Until it dries, another passing away while still tender.
Towards dryness, passing away, while it is welcomed
