يَسوسونَ الأُمورَ بِغَيرِ عَقلٍ

يَسوسونَ الأُمورَ بِغَيرِ عَقلٍ

فَيَنفُذُ أَمرُهُم وَيُقالُ ساسَه

فَيَنفُذُ أَمرُهُم وَيُقالُ ساسَه

They govern affairs without reason,

They govern affairs without reason;

Yet their command takes effect, and it is said: “He governed it.”

so their command takes effect, and they are called statesmen.

فَأُفَّ مِنَ الحَياةِ وَأُفَّ مِنّي

فَأُفَّ مِنَ الحَياةِ وَأُفَّ مِنّي

وَمِن زَمَنٍ رِئاسَتُهُ خَساسَه

وَمِن زَمَنٍ رِئاسَتُهُ خَساسَه

So fie upon life, and fie upon me,

So fie on life, and fie on me,

And upon an age whose leadership is baseness.

and on an age whose leadership is base.
