وَطَريقُ الهُدى كَسُمِّ الخَيّاطِ
The paths of error are easy and broad.
The paths of misguidance are easy and spacious,
And the path of right guidance is like a needle's eye.
While the path of righteousness is as narrow as a seamstress's thread.

رُ إِلّا مَضروبَةً بِالسِياطِ
An arduous ascent: lean mounts are not made to climb it
It has a rugged ascent which cannot be climbed
except when beaten with whips.
Except with determination and self-discipline.

بُ حَياتي فيها بِقَطعِ النِياطِ
How can I face the steppes that the caravan traverses?
How can the riders traverse the wilderness,
My life there would end with the severing of the heartstring.
While my life remains constrained by moral codes?

Bare of vegetation, yet
The plains are barren of vegetation yet
clothed in their mirage as though in fine robes.
Their mirages clothe them like meadows.
