The fates have passed me by, departing.
For I have lingered forever, until eternity grew weary of me.

And my eyelids' two fringes are not a nightjar's two feathers
When the nightjar is drenched beneath the rain cloud.

We complain to God that we are of bad character.
We are slaves, yet pride dwells in our noses.

And man wrongs his soul, which gathers bitter aloe;
He thinks it honey, while male ostriches eat colocynth seeds.

Until suffering is lifted from their livers.

I drank the wine of sorrow, whose cup is my mind.
And froth from its rising lies in the partings of my hair.

So leave your grazing herds as plunder: no camels have wept
For Labid's resting place, nor has their matted hair.

And dominion perishes and does not endure for its possessor.
The son of Ad perished, and his vulture Lubad perished.

Make fear of God your provision, storing it up;
For the sturdy, galloping steed will not save you from Him.
