خُذوا في سَبيلِ العَقلِ تُهدَوا بِهَديِهِ

خُذوا في سَبيلِ العَقلِ تُهدَوا بِهَديِهِ

وَلا يَرجونَ غَيرَ المُهَيمِنِ راجِ

وَلا يَرجونَ غَيرَ المُهَيمِنِ راجِ

Take the path of reason; you will be guided by its guidance.

Take the path of reason, you will be guided by its guidance

And let none who hopes hope in any but the Guardian.

And do not hope for anything but the Almighty as refuge

وَلا تُطفِئوا نورَ المَليكِ فَإِنَّهُ

وَلا تُطفِئوا نورَ المَليكِ فَإِنَّهُ

مُمَتِّعُ كُلٍّ مِن حِجىً بِسِراجِ

مُمَتِّعُ كُلٍّ مِن حِجىً بِسِراجِ

And do not extinguish the Sovereign’s light, for He

And do not extinguish the light of the angels for it

lets everyone enjoy a lamp of reason.

Brings joy to each one in the dark with a lamp

أَرى الناسَ في مَجهولَةٍ كَبَرا

أَرى الناسَ في مَجهولَةٍ كَبَرا

ءُهُمُ حَيٍّ يَلعَبونَ خُراجِ

ءُهُمُ حَيٍّ يَلعَبونَ خُراجِ

I see people in the unknown, their leaders—

I see the people lost in great ignorance

—[fragmentary] of a tribe, playing khurāj.

While they are alive, they play with nonsense
