Take my counsel; let that from me suffice you,

Despite the crookedness and unevenness within me.

And what do my companions seek from me?

They wanted my speech, while I wanted my silence.

And a great distance lies between us,

So they went their way, and I went mine.

For the cold drives those clad in it

Toward some day of scorching heat.

I see things united by common roots,

And how much bereavement and gloating time holds!

    وَهُنَّ الخَيلُ مِن دُهمٍ وَكُمتِ

    It is the animal kind—humans and wild beasts;

And they are horses—black and bay.
