الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ أَضحى الناسُ في عَجَبٍ

الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ أَضحى الناسُ في عَجَبٍ

مُستَهتِرينَ بِإِفراطٍ وَتَفريطِ

مُستَهتِرينَ بِإِفراطٍ وَتَفريطِ

Praise be to God! People have come to a strange state,

Praise be to Allah, people are amazed

Recklessly given to excess and neglect.

Being reckless in excess and negligence

وَالزَندُ في حُبِّ أَسوارٍ يُسَوَّرُهُ

وَالزَندُ في حُبِّ أَسوارٍ يُسَوَّرُهُ

كَالأُذنِ في حُبِّ تَشنيفٍ وَتَقريطِ

كَالأُذنِ في حُبِّ تَشنيفٍ وَتَقريطِ

And the wrist, in its love of a bracelet that adorns it,

While the young man is in love with walls to fence him

Is like the ear in its love of pendants and earrings.

Like the ear's love of adornment and jewelry

يَبغي الحُظوظَ أُناسٌ مِن ظُبىً وَقَناً

يَبغي الحُظوظَ أُناسٌ مِن ظُبىً وَقَناً

وَآخَرونَ بَغَوها بِالمَشاريطِ

وَآخَرونَ بَغَوها بِالمَشاريطِ

Some people seek their fortunes from sword blades and spears,

Some people desire fortunes from antelope and wild cattle

And others have sought them with lancets.

While others sought them through die rolls

فَجُد بِعُرفٍ وَلَو بِالنَزرِ مُحتَسِباً

فَجُد بِعُرفٍ وَلَو بِالنَزرِ مُحتَسِباً

إِنَّ القَناطيرَ تُحوى بِالقَراريطِ

إِنَّ القَناطيرَ تُحوى بِالقَراريطِ

So give generously in kindness, even a little, seeking God's reward:

So be generous even if with little, seeking reward

Indeed, quintals are amassed carat by carat.

Indeed, fortunes are amassed with pennies
