ياO صالِحَSalih ('righteous') اِجعَلmake وَصفَthe description شَخصِكof your person وَاِسمَهُand its name
مِثلَنِalike إِنَّكَindeed you فيin بِحارِكَyour seas ماهِرُskilled
O Salih, make your character and your name
O Noble One, make your description and name
alike; you are skilled in your seas.
Like us, you are skilled in your oceans
ماnot فِضَّةُsilver الإِنسانِof a human being إِلّاexcept فَضَّةٌa breaking apart
وَالتِبرُand gold dust تَتبيرٌdestruction وَجَدُّكَand your fortune ظاهِرُapparent
A man's silver is nothing but a breaking apart;
A human's silver is but silver
and gold dust is destruction, and your fortune is plain.
And tin is tin, and you are the Manifest
وَالدُرُّand pearls دَرٌّa flow لِلهُمومِfor worries تُسِرُّهُyou conceal it
إِنَّindeed الجَواهِرَjewels بِالأَذاةِwith harm جَواهِرُproclaiming aloud
And pearls are a flow of cares you conceal;
And a pearl is a pearl that delights worries
indeed, jewels proclaim harm aloud.
Indeed jewels are made jewels by suffering
كَذَبَlied الَّذيthe one who سَمّىnamed المُمَلَّكَthe one made king قاهِراًQahir ('subduer')
نَحنُwe الأَذِلَّةُthe abased وَالمَليكُand the Sovereign القاهِرُthe Subduer
He lied who named the man made king Qahir ('Subduer');
He who named the Ruler the Subduer lied
we are the abased, and the Sovereign is the Subduer.
We are the abased ones, and the King is the Subduer
وَكَذاكَand likewise يُدعىis called طاهِراًTahir ('pure') مَنone who كُلُّهُall of him
نَجسٌfilth وَيُفقَدُand is not found فيamong الأَنامِhumankind الطاهِرُthe pure one
Likewise, one is called Tahir ('Pure') whose whole being is
And thus is called Pure, he who is
filth; and among humankind no pure man is found.
Entirely impure, and the Pure is lost among people
