أَعاذِلَتيO my female reproacher اِرتَجَزتُI chanted rajaz verse عَلىin the face of المَناياdeaths
أُؤَمِّلُI hope أَنthat يُشَجِّعُنيwill embolden me اِرتِجازيmy rajaz chanting
O my reproacher, I have chanted rajaz verse in the face of death;
My beloved, I composed verses about fate
I hope my chanting will embolden me.
I hope my composition encourages me
تَمُرُّpass حَوادِثٌcalamities وَيَطولُand stretches on دَهرٌtime
وَيَفتَقِرُand is in need المُجيزُthe giver of rewards إِلىof المُجازِthe recipient of rewards
Calamities pass, and time stretches on;
Events pass and time lengthens
and the giver of rewards needs the one rewarded.
And the eloquent needs metaphor
وَكَيفَand how أَرومُI seek مِنكَfrom you جَميلَgood فِعلٍa deed
إِذاwhen أَيقَنتُI know for certain أَنّيthat I غَيرُnot جازِone who repays
And how can I seek a good deed from you
How can I expect a good deed from you
when I know for certain I give nothing in return?
When I'm sure I don't deserve it
وَلَيسَand is not عَلىbased on الحَقائِقِliteral meanings كُلُّall قَوليmy speech
وَلَكِنbut فيهِin it أَصنافُkinds المَجازِfigurative language
And not everything I say is literal;
Not all my words match reality
but it contains various kinds of figurative language.
But contain various metaphors
لَعَلَّperhaps الرافِدَينِthe two rivers وَنيلِand the Nile of مِصرٍEgypt
يَحُرنَthey turn back فَيَنتَقِلنَthen they move إِلىto الحِجازِthe Hijaz
Perhaps the two rivers and Egypt's Nile
Perhaps the Tigris, Euphrates and Nile of Egypt
will turn back and move to the Hijaz.
Will be moved and flow to Hejaz
