أَصاحِO friend هِيَit الدُنياthe world تُشابِهُresembles ميتَةًa carcass
وَنَحنُand we حَوالَيهاaround it الكِلابُthe dogs النَوابِحُthe barking ones
O friend, the world resembles a carcass,
This world resembles a lifeless corpse
and we are the barking dogs around it.
And we are like the howling dogs around it
فَمَنso whoever ظَلَّkeeps مِنهاfrom it آكِلاًeating فَهوَthen he is خاسِرٌa loser
وَمَنand whoever عادَreturns عَنهاaway from it ساغِباًhungry فَهوَthen he is رابِحُa winner
So whoever keeps feeding on it is a loser,
Whoever keeps devouring it is at loss
and whoever returns from it hungry is a winner.
And whoever turns away from it is at gain
فَمَنso whoever لَمdid not تَبَيَّتهُassail him by night الخُطوبُthe calamities فَإِنَّهُthen indeed he
سَيَصبَحُهُwill visit him in the morning مِنfrom حادِثِa misfortune of الدَهرِtime صابِحُa morning visitor
For whoever calamities have not assailed by night, surely he
He who is not awakened by calamities
will be visited in the morning by one of time's misfortunes.
Will face the blows of time when morn arrives
