فَلَيتَنيso, if only I وُفِّقتُhad been granted success فيin ذاthis الزُمَينthe brief time
My time has passed, and the span has run its course.
If only I had been granted success in this brief time.
أَرزَمتِmoaned النابُthe old she-camel وَعارَضتُهاand I answered her
فَلِيَعجَبِso let him marvel السامِعُthe listener لِلمُرزَمَينat the two moaners
The old she-camel moaned, and I answered her;
so let the listener marvel at the two moaners.
أَمطَرَناsent us rain اللَهُGod بِإِحسانِهِby His kindness
لاnot أَنسُبُI attribute الغَيثَthe rain إِلىto المِرزَمَينthe two Mirzam stars
God sent us rain in His kindness;
I do not attribute the rain to the two Mirzam stars.
لَيتَif only دُموعيmy tears بِمِنىًat Mina سُيِّلَتhad been made to flow
لِيَشرَبَso that they might drink الحُجّاجُthe pilgrims مِنfrom زَمزَمَينtwo Zamzam wells
If only my tears had been made to flow at Mina,
so that the pilgrims might drink from two Zamzam wells.
