دُنياworld فَإِنّيfor I قَدalready أَطَلتُI have prolonged المُقامthe stay
My Lord, when shall I depart from this
world? For I have stayed too long.
لَمnot أَدرِI know ماwhat نَجميmy star وَلَكِنَّهُbut it
فيin النَحسِill fortune مُذsince كانَit existed جَرىit ran وَاِستَقامand held steady
I do not know what my star is, but it
has run a steady course in ill fortune since it came to be.
فَلاso no صَديقٌfriend يَتَرَجّىhopes for يَديmy hand
وَلاand no عَدُوٌّenemy يَتَخَشّىfears اِنتِقامrevenge
So no friend looks to my hand with hope,
and no enemy fears revenge.
وَالعَيشُand life سُقمٌa sickness لِلفَتىfor a young man مُنصِبٌexhausting
وَالمَوتُand death يَأتيcomes بِشِفاءِwith a cure السَقامthe sickness
And life is an exhausting sickness for a young man,
and death comes with a cure for the sickness.
وَالتُربُand the dust مَثوايَmy resting place وَمَثواهُمُand their resting place
وَماand not رَأَيناwe have seen أَحَداًanyone مِنهُfrom it قامrose
And the dust is my resting place and theirs,
and we have seen no one rise from it.
