سَمعي مُوَقَّىً سالِمٌ فَقُلِ

سَمعي مُوَقَّىً سالِمٌ فَقُلِ

الصَوابَ وَلا تَصِح

My hearing is protected and sound, so speak

what is right, and do not shout.

مِن قَبلِ يَومِ حَليمَةٍ

مِن قَبلِ يَومِ حَليمَةٍ

حَلِمَ الأَديمُ فَما يَصِح

حَلِمَ الأَديمُ فَما يَصِح

Before the day of Halima,

the hide grew worm-eaten, and so is not sound.

وَالمَرءُ في تَركيبِهِ

وَالمَرءُ في تَركيبِهِ

غَضَبٌ يَهيجُ إِذا نُصِحَ

غَضَبٌ يَهيجُ إِذا نُصِحَ

And man, in his constitution,

is anger that flares when he is advised.
