قَديماًlong ago كَرِهتُI hated المَوتَdeath وَاللَهُand God شاهِدٌis witness
وَقَدand indeed عِشتُI have lived حَتّىuntil أَسمَحَتyielded ليto me قَرونَتيmy soul
Long ago I hated death, and God is witness.
Long ago I hated death, and God is my witness,
And I have lived until my soul yielded to me.
And I have lived long enough for my temples to whiten,
وَأَحسَبُهُand I think it لَوif جاءَنيcame to me لَأَبَيتُهُI would refuse it
وَمِنand from عِندِthe presence of رَبّيmy Lord نُصرَتيmy support وَمَعونَتيand my aid
Yet I think, were it to come to me, I would refuse it.
And I reckon that if it came to me I would refuse it,
And my support and my aid come from my Lord.
And from my Lord is my aid and my resource.
إِذاwhen أَناI وارانيhas covered me التُرابُthe dust فَخَلِّنيthen leave me
وَماand what أَناI فيهِin it قَدalready كُفيتُI have been relieved of مَؤونَتيmy burden
When the dust has covered me, leave me
When the dust comes to cover me, then leave me,
In the state I am in; I have already been relieved of my burden.
And with what I'm in, I've been sufficed provision.
