Lo, by the riding camels and their saddles,
Crossing the desert with one who traverses it,
تُنَصُّare urged to speed بِكُلِّwith every فَتىًyoung man ناسِكٍdevout

Driven swiftly, bearing every devout young man,
Of sound, unquestioned intellect;
مَتىwhenever ذُكِرَتis mentioned عِندَهُin his presence مومِسٌa prostitute
فَلَيسَthen he is not حِذاراًout of fear بِمُغتابِهاone who speaks ill of her
Whenever a prostitute is mentioned in his presence,
Then, out of fear, he does not speak ill of her;
وَأَجبالِand by the mountains فِهرٍFihr وَأَحجارِهاand their stones
وَكَعبَةِand by the Kaaba كَعبٍKaʿb وَمُنتابِهاand whoever frequents it
And by Fihr's mountains and their stones,
And by Kaʿb's Kaaba and whoever frequents it,
وَكُتبٍand by books يَبينُis evident اِتِّقاءُfear of المَليكِthe Sovereign

And by books—fear of the Sovereign is evident
In those who study them and those who write them—
لَقَدindeed عُتِبَتhave been reproached هَذِهِthese الحادِثاتُvicissitudes
فَلَمyet did not تُرضِsatisfy خَلقاًanyone بِإِعتابِهاwith their amends
Indeed, these vicissitudes have been reproached,
Yet they have satisfied no one with their amends.
