مُخَوَّداتٌ وَلا أُسدٌ وَلا خودُ

مُخَوَّداتٌ وَلا أُسدٌ وَلا خودُ

Live as long as you please; nothing endures through time—

Live as you wish, nothing remains the same over time

neither swiftly driven she-camels, nor lions, nor fair maidens.

Caves and lions and leopards too

إِن كُنتَ جَلَداً فَأَجلادي إِلى نَفَدٍ

إِن كُنتَ جَلَداً فَأَجلادي إِلى نَفَدٍ

كَم صَخرَةٍ قَد تَشَظَّت وَهيَ صَيخودُ

كَم صَخرَةٍ قَد تَشَظَّت وَهيَ صَيخودُ

If you are hardy, my body is destined to waste away;

If you are tough, you will wear out someday

how many a rock has shattered, though hard and solid!

How many rocks have cracked and crumbled away
