It may be quenched—the sun that has blazed
Since the days of ʿĀd, its fire kindled by the King.
فَإِنso if خَبَتdies down فيthrough طَوالِthe long spans of الدَهرِtime حُمرَتُهاits redness

So if, through the long ages, its redness dies down,
The celestial sphere must inevitably be undone.

Humankind has passed away; but for my knowledge of their state,
I would have said with Zuhayr: “Which way did they go?”

They have not left the dominion, nor moved
Away from it; how, then, can I believe that they have perished?
