حَسبُenough الفَتىthe young man مِنof ذُنوبٍsins وَصفُهُhis describing رَجُلاًa man
بِالخَيرِas good وَهوَwhile he عَلىon ضِدِّthe opposite of الَّذيwhat يَصِفُhe describes
It is sin enough for a young man to describe a man
A man's worth lies not in sins described,
as good, though he is the opposite of what he is said to be.
While portraying him as virtuous, though he's otherwise inclined.
وَقَدand indeed خَبِرتُI have come to know بَنيthe children of الدُنياthis world فَلَيتَهُمُso would that they
أَوor لَيتَنيwould that I حَمَلَتنيcarried me عَنهُمُaway from them العُصُفُthe gusting winds
And I have come to know the children of this world; would that they were gone,
I've known the folk of this world - would they were not,
or that the gusting winds had carried me away from them.
Or I'd been blown far from them by the winds aloft.
فَظالِمٌfor an oppressor آخِذٌtaking ماwhat لاnot يَحِلُّis lawful لَهُfor him
وَمُنصِفٌand a just man ظَلَّremained فيهِمamong them لَيسَdoes not يَنتَصِفُobtain justice for himself
For an oppressor takes what is not lawful for him,
For the oppressor seizes what isn't his by right,
and a just man remains among them, yet obtains no justice.
While the just man among them remains oppressed despite his might.
