كَأَنَّas though قُلوبَthe hearts القَومِof the people مِنّاamong us جَنادِلٌboulders
كَأَنَّ قُلوبَ القَومِ مِنّا جَنادِلٌ
فَلَيسَso there is no لَهاfor them عِندَwhen facing الأُمورِaffairs حَصاةُdiscernment
فَلَيسَ لَها عِندَ الأُمورِ حَصاةُ
It is as though the hearts of the people among us were boulders,
As if the hearts of these people are cut stones,
so they have no discernment when facing affairs.
They have no weight when matters arise.
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle اِدَّعواthey claimed لِلَّهِtoward God خَوفاًfear وَطاعَةًand obedience
إِذا ما اِدَّعوا لِلَّهِ خَوفاً وَطاعَةً
فَلاthen there is no رَيبَdoubt أَنَّthat المُدَّعينَthose making the claims عُصاةُdisobedient people
فَلا رَيبَ أَنَّ المُدَّعينَ عُصاةُ
When they claim fear of God and obedience to Him,
When they claim to fear and obey Allah,
then no doubt those making these claims are disobedient.
Without doubt the claimants are disobedient.
وَأَوصاهُمُand counseled them أَهلُpeople of الأَمانَةِtrustworthiness وَالتُقىand piety
وَأَوصاهُمُ أَهلُ الأَمانَةِ وَالتُقى
فَماyet no حُفِظَتwas heeded بَعدَafter المَغيبِthe departure وَصاةُcounsel
فَما حُفِظَت بَعدَ المَغيبِ وَصاةُ
And trustworthy, pious people counseled them,
And the people of loyalty and piety advised them,
yet no counsel was heeded after their departure.
But after death, no covenant was kept.
