أَتُذهَبُis it gilded? دارٌa house بِالنُضارِwith gold وَرَبُّهاwhile its owner
أَتُذهَبُ دارٌ بِالنُضارِ وَرَبُّها
يُخَلِّفُهاhe leaves it behind عَمّاafter قَليلٍa short while وَيَذهَبُand he departs
يُخَلِّفُها عَمّا قَليلٍ وَيَذهَبُ
Is a dwelling carried away with its gold, while its owner
Is a house gilded with gold, while its owner
Does a house in all its beauty disappear,
will leave it behind before long and depart?
will leave it behind before long and depart?
While its lord still lives and draws breath?

وَما دُمتَ حَيّاً فَهوَ ذا يَتَلَهَّبُ
I see a spark within the body that death extinguishes;
I see a flame in the body that death extinguishes;
I see a flame in my body quenched by fate,
and as long as you remain alive, there it is, blazing.
and as long as you are alive, here it is, blazing.
Yet while you live, it will kindle anew.
