If you wish to safeguard the one whose companion you are,

then do not enter a bathhouse in town.

And if you dwell in the desert, let no cloth screen reassure you,

as you whisper in the forenoon to Sawwar and Zammam.

For how many men and women who forbade you have you defied!

And how many maternal and paternal uncles you have disgraced!

No one but husbands has guarded you,

and at time’s beginning you exhausted a resolute man.

And I did not weep for Ramim while she was far away,

even though I knew the cords of union were rotten.

If she turns away in estrangement and loathing,

then do not seek even a fleeting encounter with her in sleep.
