أَخوcompanion of الراحِwine إِنif قالَhe says قَولاًa word وَجَدتَyou find
أَحسَنَbetter مِمّاthan what يَقولُhe says الصُموتاsilence
If the wine-drinker says a word, you find
silence better than what he says.
وَيَشرَبُand he drinks مِنهاof it إِلىuntil أَنthat يَقيءَhe vomits
وَلاand no غَروَwonder إِنif قُلتَyou say حَتّىuntil يَموتاhe dies
And he drinks of it until he vomits—
and no wonder if you say, “Until he dies.”
