إِذاif المَرءُa man لَمdid not يَغلِبovercome مِنَof الغَيظِanger سَورَةًa surge
إِذا المَرءُ لَم يَغلِب مِنَ الغَيظِ سَورَةً
فَلَيسَthen he is not وَإِنand even if فَضَّshattered الصَفاhard, smooth rock بِشَديدِstrong at all
فَلَيسَ وَإِن فَضَّ الصَفا بِشَديدِ
If a man does not master a surge of anger,
When anger overwhelms a man's will
He is not strong, even if he shatters hard rock.
Though valiant, he is not free from ill
وَمَنand whoever جَمَعَbrought together الضَرّاتِco-wives يَطلُبُhe seeks لَذَّةًpleasure
وَمَن جَمَعَ الضَرّاتِ يَطلُبُ لَذَّةً
فَقَدthen indeed باتَhas become فيin الإِضرارِcausing harm غَيرَnot سَديدِsound in judgment
فَقَد باتَ في الإِضرارِ غَيرَ سَديدِ
And whoever gathers co-wives in pursuit of pleasure
Who seeks delight in others' plight
Has indeed proved unwise in causing harm.
Will surely suffer in their spite
وَإِنand if يَلتَمِسhe seeks أُخرىanother woman جَديداًanew لِحاجَةٍfor a need
وَإِن يَلتَمِس أُخرى جَديداً لِحاجَةٍ
فَلاso let him not يَأمَنَنfeel secure at all مِنهاfrom her اِبتِغاءَseeking جَديدِsomeone new
فَلا يَأمَنَن مِنها اِبتِغاءَ جَديدِ
And if he seeks another woman afresh to meet a need,
And he who covets wealth anew
Let him not feel safe from her seeking someone new.
Will find in wealth no solace true
