سُكوناًstillness خِلتُI thought أَقدَمَolder مِنthan حَراكٍmotion
فَكَيفَso how بِقَولِناwith our saying حَدَثَcame into being السُكونُstillness
I thought stillness older than motion;
Silence prevailed, I walked ahead of commotion
so how can we say, “Stillness came into being”?
So how did our talk bring about tranquility?
وَماand not فيamong الناسِpeople أَجهَلُmore ignorant مِنthan غَبِيٍّa fool

And none among people is more ignorant than a fool
None amongst people is more ignorant than a fool
whose attachment to this world endures.
Whose stupidity endures throughout his life

Our dwellings—when the birds are caught,
When our dwellings are preyed on by birds
the nests do not weep in sorrow.
Neither the owls nor the lizards weep in sorrow
وَماand not كانَتthere was نَوىparting فَنَذُمَّso we might condemn بَيناًseparation

And no parting has yet occurred for us to condemn separation;
No intention ever regrets at the time
and yet, after some days, it will occur.
But after some days, it comes to regret
