وَجَدتُ غَنائِمَ الإِسلامِ نَهباً

وَجَدتُ غَنائِمَ الإِسلامِ نَهباً

لِأَصحابِ المَعازِفِ وَالمَلاهي

لِأَصحابِ المَعازِفِ وَالمَلاهي

I found the spoils of Islam to be plunder

I found the spoils of Islam looted

for those given to musical instruments and diversions.

By the owners of music and frivolity

وَكَيفَ يَصُحُّ إِجماعُ البَرايا

وَكَيفَ يَصُحُّ إِجماعُ البَرايا

وَهُمُ لا يَجمَعونَ عَلى الإِلَهِ

وَهُمُ لا يَجمَعونَ عَلى الإِلَهِ

And how can the consensus of humankind be valid,

And how can ignorant people agree

when they do not agree on God?

When they do not agree on God

تُنازِعُني إِلى الشَهواتِ نَفسي

تُنازِعُني إِلى الشَهواتِ نَفسي

فَلا أَنا مُنجَحٌ أَبَداً وَلا هي

فَلا أَنا مُنجَحٌ أَبَداً وَلا هي

My soul pulls me toward desires,

My self entices me to passions

so neither I nor it is ever granted success.

So neither I nor it will succeed forever
