I found the blackness of the hair altered in hue

By time’s alternating white days and dark nights.

So let no ruler be deceived by sovereignty,

For how many a light has gloom concealed!

And indeed I see many supporters of Iblis,

Yet none has served him as faithfully as wine.

For if souls, after their departure,

Attain ease, then bodies are prisons.

And if the water of youth lingers long in a person,

Its turning foul after clarity brings him harm.
