I did not know You—rather, I knew You; my reverence is not

For anyone but You, between my knowledge and my ignorance.

I asked You to show me favor in my old age,

And I bore dread of You in youth and middle age.

And the fates did not hasten my destruction,

But long have been my reprieve and my respite.

Graciously protect me from the evil of my soul,

And add to that refuge from the evils of my kin.

So suppose that in my praise I were Razin,

Seeking the bounties of al-Hasan ibn Sahl.
