    I deem you baseborn if one night you approach

    the white antelopes of Rimah or the gazelles of Aznam.

    فَلا تَدنُ مِنها وَاِجعَل النُسكَ مُغنَما

    They are a people's spoils, which death will plunder;

    so do not approach them; make devotion your prize.

    They set ears singing with precious pearls,

    and drive the ear-marked herds on for departure.

    And when an ʿanam-red settlement drew far away

    from the lowland, they displayed their red-stained fingertips.

    They show power over what cannot be done,

    and work spells to ensnare the horsemen.

    Beside the tribe's acacias, they left a man talking through the night,

    and pitched a lofty, richly patterned tent for sleep.

    They are gardens; and Ridwan, who is master

    of them, banishes Malik and Hell from you.

    They were composed, and their jewelry went mad from excessive infatuation,

    so it whispered and murmured beneath their clothes.

    وَأَعيا غَريقاً كُظَّ أَن يَتَرَنَّما

    And her anklets had fallen silent, no longer singing;

    and one drowned and stifled was unable to sing.

    So do not weep for Jamal if you see her camels

    climbing whatever heights of the ghada sands have been climbed.
