حَمَلتُI bore ثِقلَthe burden of اللَياليthe nights فيamong بَنيthe sons of زَمَنيmy time
حَمَلتُ ثِقلَ اللَيالي في بَني زَمَني
فَقَدfor indeed ظَلِلناwe remained بِذاكَbecause of that الثِقلِthe burden نُحّاطاgroaning
فَقَد ظَلِلنا بِذاكَ الثِقلِ نُحّاطا
I bore the burden of the nights among the sons of my time.
I carried the burden of nights in my time's sons
For we have remained groaning under that burden.
So we were shaded by that weight surrounded
لَوif حاطَناprotected us اللَهُGod لَمnot نَحفِلwe care بِمَرزِيَةٍabout a calamity
لَو حاطَنا اللَهُ لَم نَحفِل بِمَرزِيَةٍ
وَكَيفَand how يَخشىfears رَزاياthe calamities of الدَهرِtime مَنone whom حاطاHe protected
وَكَيفَ يَخشى رَزايا الدَهرِ مَن حاطا
Had God protected us, we would have cared nothing for calamity.
Had God protected us we'd not care for bleakness
And how can one whom He has protected fear the calamities of time?
And how would one protected by God dread fate's calamities
