    Humankind has taken time for a mount,

    which does not kneel as riding beasts are accustomed to do.

    Ah, for our world, vile as a dwelling,

    if only this person were allowed to remain in it!

    ورَضيتَ أَنَّكَ في وِصالِكَ تُشرَكُ

    And you loved her, then found a betrayer's friendship;

    and accepted that others share in your union.

    And a person is like a letter, between his sleeplessness

    and his sleep: now still, now set in motion.

    فَرِضا البَريَّةِ غايَةٌ لا تُدرَكُ

    One who strives for his Creator may attain approval;

    but creation's approval is a goal that cannot be attained.
