He joined noonday heat to noonday heat, hoping
The migrant reached the migrant, hoping
to find temperate air in eternity.
In eternity to get the soft, wispy air

Death's repose stripped him of his cloak of roses,
The cold of roses robbed him of restful sleep
robbing him as it clothed him in a cloak of violets.
When it clothed him in violet's cold

A yellow-fingered one covered him, unseen,
The yellow date palms concealed him
as though he had never woven for his own fingertips.
As if he had not woven them as clothing

He departed, leaving his wife and daughters behind,
He turned away, leaving his wedding party and daughters
gathering the choicest fare from boxthorn.
To reap the sweetest tasting food of bitterness
