Have people's minds grown frivolous, or were those who came before

Among the people fools, light of mind?

So let the ewe not grieve if her son is brought near

To the blade of a tyrant, grievously unjust to men.

For if the Ram of heaven came to be among them,

It would end up slaughtered, or escape with wounds.

People—whenever you flee from them to the grave,

Then, as God knows, you are not to blame.
