وَعِرسُكَ الشاةُ فَاِحذَر جارَكَ الذيبا
O shepherd of the city, you have not pastured your flock in peace;
and your wife is the ewe—so beware your neighbor, the wolf.
تَرومُyou seek تَهذيبَrefinement هَذاthis الخَلقُhumankind مِنof دَنَسٍdefilement

You seek to cleanse this human race of defilement,
yet God has willed no refinement for peoples.

وَما رَوِيتَ بِعَذبٍ حَلَّ في قُلُبٍ
حَتّىuntil تَكَلَّفتَyou took upon yourself إِعناتاًhardship وَتَعذيباand torment
حَتّى تَكَلَّفتَ إِعناتاً وَتَعذيبا
Nor did you quench your thirst with sweet water lying in wells
until you had taken on hardship and torment.
فَاِعرِفso recognize لِصادِقِكَfor one truthful to you الأَنباءَthe news مَوضِعَهُhis proper place

and repay the liar for what he said by rejecting it as false.
