قَضاءٌ يُوافي مِن جَميعِ جِهاتِهِ

قَضاءٌ يُوافي مِن جَميعِ جِهاتِهِ

كَما هُوَ عَن أَيمانِنا وَالأَياسِرِ

كَما هُوَ عَن أَيمانِنا وَالأَياسِرِ

Fate comes from every direction,

Just as it comes from our right and left.

وَلَو لَم يُرِد جَورَ البُزاةِ عَلى القَطا

وَلَو لَم يُرِد جَورَ البُزاةِ عَلى القَطا

مُكَوِّنُها ما صاغَها بِمَناسِرِ

مُكَوِّنُها ما صاغَها بِمَناسِرِ

And had the hawks’ oppression of the sandgrouse not been willed

By their Maker, he would not have fashioned them with hooked beaks.

رَأَيتُ سُكوتي مَتجَراً فَلَزِمتُهُ

رَأَيتُ سُكوتي مَتجَراً فَلَزِمتُهُ

إِذا لَم يُفِد رِبحاً فَلَستُ بِخاسِرِ

إِذا لَم يُفِد رِبحاً فَلَستُ بِخاسِرِ

I regarded my silence as a trade, so I kept to it;

If it yields no profit, then I am not at a loss.
