الظُلمُinjustice فيin الطَبعِinnate nature فَالجاراتُso the female neighbors مُرهَقَةٌoppressed
الظُلمُ في الطَبعِ فَالجاراتُ مُرهَقَةٌ
وَالعِرفُand custom يَستُرُconceals وَالميزانُand the scales مَبخوسُmade to give short weight
وَالعِرفُ يَستُرُ وَالميزانُ مَبخوسُ
Injustice is ingrained in nature: the creatures dwelling beside us are overburdened;
Injustice is inborn, so neighboring women are oppressed.
Custom draws a veil, while the scales give short measure.
And custom conceals it, and the scales give short weight.
وَالطِرفُand the steed يُضرَبُis beaten وَالأَنعامُand the livestock مَأكَلَةٌfood
وَالطِرفُ يُضرَبُ وَالأَنعامُ مَأكَلَةٌ
وَالعيرُand the ass حامِلُbearing ثِقلٍa heavy load وَهوَwhile it is مَنخوسُgoaded
وَالعيرُ حامِلُ ثِقلٍ وَهوَ مَنخوسُ
The noble steed is beaten, and livestock are made a meal;
And the steed is beaten, and livestock are food.
The ass bears a burden, goaded all the while.
And the ass bears a heavy load while being goaded.
