تَسَمّى رَشيداً مِن لُؤَيِّ بنِ غالِبٍ

تَسَمّى رَشيداً مِن لُؤَيِّ بنِ غالِبٍ

أَميرٌ وَهَل في العالَمينَ رَشيدُ

أَميرٌ وَهَل في العالَمينَ رَشيدُ

He called himself Rashid, of Lu’ayy son of Ghalib—

a prince; yet is there anyone rightly guided in all the worlds?

فَإِنَّ أَغانِيَّ اللَيالي نَيّاحَةٌ

فَإِنَّ أَغانِيَّ اللَيالي نَيّاحَةٌ

وَمِنها بَسيطٌ مُقتَضىً وَنَشيدُ

وَمِنها بَسيطٌ مُقتَضىً وَنَشيدُ

For the songs of the nights are a wailing mourner,

And among them are a simple, prescribed strain and a chant.
