At life's end we shall return to dwellings;

لاdo not تَأمَنَنَّever feel safe مِنَfrom الدُهورِthe ages تَغَيُّراًa change

حَتّى تَكونُ ظِبائُها كَذِئابِها
Never feel safe from changes wrought by the ages,
even to the point that their gazelles become like their wolves,

and the harvest of their planting falls in Shaybān,
and their snowfall comes in August.

They preserved men's tales, yet destroyed
my predecessors—their ʿUtaybah and the house of their Dhuʾāb.
