Exalted is God! How many an awe-inspiring king
Come, Allah, how many a majestic king
has exchanged a palace for the narrow confines of a grave.
Has changed after a narrow grave's width!
أُقِرُّI acknowledge بِأَنَّthat ليI have رَبّاًa Lord قَديراًall-powerful
وَلاand not أَلقىI meet بَدائِعَهُHis wonders بِجَحدِwith denial
I acknowledge that I have an all-powerful Lord,
I acknowledge that I have a Powerful Lord
and I do not meet His wonders with denial.
And I do not deny His wonders in ingratitude
لَوeven if اِنّيthat I فيin عِدادِthe number of الرَملِthe sand صَحبيmy companions
لَأَودَعتُI would be laid الثَرىthe earth وَتُرِكتُand I would be left وَحديby myself
Even if my companions were as numerous as the grains of sand,
If I were among the grains of sand, my friends,
I would be laid in the earth and left alone.
I would be laid in earth and left in solitude
