أَقَرّواthey acknowledged بِالإِلَهِin God وَأَثبَتوهُand affirmed His existence
أَقَرّوا بِالإِلَهِ وَأَثبَتوهُ
وَقالواand said لاno نَبِيَّprophet وَلاand no كِتابُscripture
وَقالوا لا نَبِيَّ وَلا كِتابُ
They acknowledged God and affirmed His existence,
And said, “There is no prophet and no scripture,
وَوَطءُand intercourse with بَناتِناour daughters حِلٌّlawful مُباحٌpermitted
وَوَطءُ بَناتِنا حِلٌّ مُباحٌ
رُوَيدَكُمُeasy now, all of you فَقَدfor indeed بَطَلَbecame futile العِتابُreproach
رُوَيدَكُمُ فَقَد بَطَلَ العِتابُ
And intercourse with our daughters is lawful and permitted.”
Easy now, for reproach has become futile.
تَمادَواthey persisted فيin العِتابِreproach وَلَمand did not يَتوبواthey repent
تَمادَوا في العِتابِ وَلَم يَتوبوا
وَلَوand if سَمِعواthey heard صَليلَclang السَيفِthe sword تابواthey repented
وَلَو سَمِعوا صَليلَ السَيفِ تابوا
They persisted in reproach and did not repent;
And had they heard the clang of the sword, they would have repented.
