May gravel fill my mouth! Can she fill the mind—

she whose mouth, to the beholder’s eye, holds a string of pearls?

If you see my figure standing,

a scorching noon meets you, in plain sight, with a mirage.

So do not envy me the freshness I was granted

by Time; and consider my return and my final end.

And my family—I mean my relatives—are its troops

in the harm it has made me drink and promised me.
