وَعالَت وَالفَريضَةُ ذاتُ عَولِ

This is the world: when pursued, she humiliates;

It is the world: when sought, it humiliates,

she acts unjustly—and even the prescribed inheritance share is subject to reduction.

And deals unjustly; the prescribed inheritance share is subject to reduction.

فَما أَنا ساعِياً فيها لِغَيري

فَما أَنا ساعِياً فيها لِغَيري

وَلا أَحمَدتُ أَقواماً سَعَوا لي

وَلا أَحمَدتُ أَقواماً سَعَوا لي

So I am not one to strive in her for another,

So I am not one to strive in it for another,

nor do I praise those who have striven for me.

Nor have I found those who strove for me praiseworthy.
