The gladness of days gone by, and youth,

have betrayed their people in Shāsha and in Shāsh.

And this Time has always curbed unruly steeds

with bridles, and curbed a breeding camel with a nose-peg.

And sends forth a falcon, unleashed for Death,

so it seizes small prey from among our champions.

It strikes the master of unerring arrows, and attacks

    amid battle’s spear-thrusts, with a blood-spattering thrust.

By my life, he has indeed called out, though silent—

Mukaththam—for so long: “Depart, then, in haste!”
