لاdo not تُلحِقَنِّيَimpute to me مَيناًfalsehood إِنif نَطَقتُI spoke بِهِof it
إِنَّindeed الغَريبَthe stranger إِذwhen أَلحَقتَهُyou claim him as kin لَحِقاhe becomes kin
Do not impute falsehood to me if I utter it;
a stranger, once you claim him as kin, becomes kin.
أَمّاas for الجَمادُlifeless matter فَإِنّيfor I بِتُّI spent the night أَغبِطُهُI envy it
إِذsince لَيسَdoes not يَعلَمُknow إِمّاwhether آدَit grew strong أَوor مُحِقاit was annihilated
As for lifeless matter, I spent the night envying it,
since it knows not whether it grows strong or is destroyed.
لاnot يَشعُرُis aware العودُthe aloeswood بِالنارِof the fire الَّتيthat أَخَذَتtook hold
فيهِwithin it وَلاnor الأَصهَبُthe tawny musk الداريُّfrom Darin إِذwhen سُحِقاit was ground to powder
Aloeswood does not feel the fire that takes hold
within it; nor does tawny musk from Darin feel anything when crushed.
